Killer Mike and El-P aka Run The Jewels have garnered major support for the movement they’ve built with the eponymous albums that they’ve released the past few years. The first installment of the album was released in 2013 as free download which was followed by the second installment a year later to great fanfare and critical acclaim. I mean these guys are about straight up hip hop beats and lyricism with no filler content, all for free.
To the delight of many fans, me included, the duo has announced that a third installment is in the works and will be out no later than the first week of 2017, which isn’t too far from now. Given how Mike has been very vocal in terms of political and racial issues one can’t help but wonder whether this album will contain a lot more such content but we’ll just have to wait and see. The album’s first single Talk To Me recently debuted on Adult Swim. The pair was also on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to have some fun with the show’s host. You can view those shenanigans in the video below.
The crew also recently announced that they will be embarking on a Run The World tour which will see the group performing across the North American continent starting from the 11th of January 2017 and ending on the 25th of February. This is probably a promotional tour to coincide with the upcoming album release, which is not a surprise. After all the group has mentioned before that the reason they don’t charge for their albums is because they make money through merchandise and shows.
